Jesse Clayton

The Drifter in the Wind's Home on the Web

Ever since his debut in 2022, Jesse Clayton has been getting into a fair bit of trouble. Clashing with outlaws, lousy sheriffs and the shadows of his past, you can find the entire Clayton collection here, complete with links to buy. I hope you enjoy reading them as much as I do writing them.

The Drifter in the Wind

September 2022

My debut novel reached #8 in Amazon's Top Sellers list!

"Fans of Charles Portis' True Grit will like this one"

"The next best thing to watching a western on TV"

"Such a page-turner"

It’s 1885, and Jesse Clayton is a drifter on the roads and trails of the Northwest. When he happens upon a rancher and his daughter being assaulted and saves their lives, he finds himself in Fortune, Idaho, a dying mining town under threat from a vicious gang of outlaws. Despite his best efforts to keep his nose out of the locals’ business, it isn’t long before Jesse is embroiled in the town’s troubles and is set on a deadly collision course with the gang’s heinous leader, Slim Joe Cullen.

Quite possibly my proudest achievement, Jesse Clayton is a throwback to the old dime stories, a gunslinging, action-packed adventure.

A man on horseback flees a moving train, with the title: A One-Way Ticket to Ruin

February, 2023

The sequel to The Drifter in the Wind, Jesse Clayton's second adventure is one ride you don't want to miss!

"I really enjoyed it from start to finish!"

"The best train I've ever caught."

"100% recommend!"

"Loving it. Keep them coming!"

Eddie Bradshaw and his gang of thieves have put together a plan. The Two o'clock train to Spokane is their target. They thought they'd accounted for everything: the passengers, the safe, and the Pinkerton agents protecting it. There was only one thing they overlooked: a passenger by the name of Jesse Clayton.

Days after the climactic showdown in Fortune, Jesse and Winona set out for Rathdrum. With hopes of starting a life together, they are a train ride away from a new beginning. Instead of a relaxing ride to the east coast, Jesse faces a fight for his life and those of the passengers, too. Outnumbered and outgunned, the odds are stacked against him in a journey full of tension, thrills and action.

Can Jesse Clayton prevail, or has he bought himself a One-way Ticket to Ruin?

The Lion, the Drifter, and the Wayward Son

Coming 2024

In the thrilling fourth instalment, Jesse finds himself in the clutches of a ruthless oil magnate. For all his riches, Ellis Osborne has a problem he cannot solve and has turned to the man who saved lives instead of his money. His son is in danger and only Jesse Clayton can help.

The job seems simple, but when Jesse arrives in Saltbury City he learns it is under the control of a man they call 'The Lion', and things soon get very complicated indeed. Alongside his new friend, Nodin, Jesse must find a way to get Osborne's son out of the Lion's den, where he has eyes, ears and guns everywhere. Even the law is in his pocket.

Will Jesse find a way out? Or will he merely become the Lion's next prey?
